Festivals and Pop Ups Summer 2016 Recap: AfroPunk, Artists & Fleas, Curlfest and more

Can't believe summer is almost over! It went by so fast and was extremely hot! We had a busy summer filled with pop ups and festivals in NYC and Maryland. In case you missed any of the events we had the pleasure to participate in, here is a full recap!

Artists & Fleas Williamsburg

We vended at Artists and Fleas in Williamsburg on the May 21st. Our shop display was one of the best we have ever put together. Received many compliments from people who entered into the shop. We met a lovely family from Denmark that also does manufacturing in Ghana. The wife brought an Osu Peplum belt in Black Tangerine and loves it! We will definitely be back at Artist & Fleas in the fall. Stay tuned!

The Bronx Art Center's Art + Fashion Pop-up

On June 4th, under the I-CAF collective, we participated in the Bronx's Art Center's Art + Fashion Pop-up. It was the closing event for a week long exhibition of African artist and designers. It was a pleasure introducing our brand and vision to the community.

  Summer Haven: Meet and Greet

Our founder and designer, Jovita Ross, did a Meet & Greet at the Summer Haven Festival at Columbia University's Medical Center. She showcased a few accessories and shared our mission about empowering and showcasing artisans in West Africa . The feedback was extremely overwhelming when it came to how sophisticated our presentation was and the appreciation of the craftsmanship of the leather goods and bags.

On June 26th we vended under the collective Bo District at the ever popular CurlFest in New York. Held in Prospect Park in Brooklyn, the event was swarming with naturals and hair care gurus. We debuted the Sade Wrap Scarf at the event and met some amazing customers and fashion enthusiasts. The Osu peplum belts were the most popular item and were praised for the construction and the quality of the fabric.

Maison Harlem

Being a Harlem based company, it was enjoyable to vend in our community. We participated in the Maison Harlem Bastille Day Celebration. The restaurant held a block party with great food, live performances and vendors.

We made our way back down to the DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia Area for FestAfrica on August 12th. The festival was held in Downtown Silver Spring. That weekend was by far one of the hottest weekend's of the year! We spent two days vending, meeting wonderful customers and getting great feedback about our collection.

This was our first Afropunk experience both as attendees and vendors. We participated in the popular Spinthrift Market under the collective Bo District. We engaged with many eclectic, beautiful and excited customers that could not wait to wear their Vita Talie accessories! The two day festival capped off our summer of vending events.
